“In Oakland, a real-deal butchery is stacking up killer cheesesteak and off-the-chain chicken,” Fieri and the Triple D website said of Clove & Hoof. The Oakland eatery was graced by a visit from the Food Network’s Guy Fieri, and is featured in the the “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” episode on “Succulent Sandwiches.”
Would you groan if we said trendy butchery Clove & Hoof is riding high on the hog this week?
Sorry for the pun, but there’s no other way to describe the successes of Analiesa Gosnell and John Blevins.
(Did we predict this or what? Back in December, our reviewer Daniel M. Jimenez called Clove & Hoof a meat lover’s paradise.)
The Oakland eatery was graced by a visit from the Food Network’s Guy Fieri, and the “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” episode on “Succulent Sandwiches” will air four times this month: 10 p.m. Saturday, May 14; 1 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 15; and 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 20 (and then in perpetuity in reruns).
“In Oakland, a real-deal butchery is stacking up killer cheesesteak and off-the-chain chicken,” Fieri and the Triple D website said of Clove & Hoof.
Fieri tried two of the menu mainstays, the cheesesteak (thinly sliced sirloin, onion confit, marinated and grilled mushrooms, matchstick turnips and warm beer cheese fondue on a hero roll) and the fried chicken sandwich (chicken with pickled pineapple, Thai herb salad and fish sauce).
Bon Appetit magazine has taken notice of Clove & Hoof too, naming it to its recent list of “10 of Our Favorite Butcher Shops Across the Country.”
Wrote Josie Adams: “The lunch menu at this butcher-shop-slash-restaurant features sandwich options like a pork belly bahn mi with house-made chicken liver mousse. Indulgent? Maybe. Must-try? Yes. If you’re staying for dinner, go for the larger cuts of meat, like a pork chop or 16-oz. rib eye. Don’t forget the beef tallow fries!”
